Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is also commonly known as Dyspraxia. DCD can exist on its own, but often overlaps with other Specific Learning Difficulties such as Dyslexia, AD(H)D and Autistic Spectrum Conditions. Mental health conditions are frequently a secondary factor and are always taken in to account in a supportive way.
Careful assessment provides detailed information about your strengths and challenges. The results and discussion with you, are used to identify personalised strategies to make life easier, more enjoyable and ultimately productive.
Dyspraxia UK is an independent service, however, your General Practitioner may be able to apply for funding if there is not a suitable service already commissioned in your area.
We endeavour to use 'gold standard', assessments as directed by the European Academy of Disability in Childhood (EACD) and evidence-based treatment approaches. We follow well-respected diagnostic criteria set out in DSM-5 and ICD-10.
The Dyspraxia UK team has a breadth of expertise and interests such as: neurodiversity, handwriting, Sensory Integration, auditory processing, listening therapies and membership of PATOSS to name a few. We also take on expert witness/tribunal work and have undertaken additional training in Law with Bond Solon and are certified by Cardiff University Law School.
Each year Dyspraxia UK runs training courses on DCD assessment for Occupational Therapists and teachers working in the NHS, education and private sectors.
