Onitha Jarrold's profile

Onitha Jarrold BSc (hons) Occupational Therapy Currently completing MSc Advancing Practice Sensory Integration with ASI Wise

I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1997 and worked in paediatrics for 12 years, specialising in sensory integration. Having worked in the NHS for many years, I now work independently with neurodivergent people of all ages, with a special interest in ADHD.

As an Occupational therapist my focus is on improving participation in any activity of daily living, many of which can be challenging due to differences in executive functioning, sensory processing and emotional regulation. I use a combination of my core occupational therapy skills, together with coaching. I complete detailed assessment to help identify the needs and outcomes that are most meaningful to my clients in the context of their life and then collaboratively design intervention and strategies to help achieve these, focussing on the clients lifestyle and interests using a strengths based approach.

Having studied sensory integration soon after qualifying I am currently refreshing my skills and undertaking post graduate training in Ayres Sensory Integration through ASI Wise, the only UK and Ireland provider of internationally accredited learning about Ayres’ Sensory Integration. This ensures I am using the most up to date assessments and intervention.

I also have post graduate training in Executive Function and Health and Wellbeing coaching and have completed a number of short sensory integration based courses. I offer sensory assessments and strategies to adults and adolescents and sensory integration therapy to children when appropriate.

I can also share knowledge with partners, family and work colleagues in order for them to gain a better understanding of how different brains work, helping improve understanding and communication.
